Almenkerk Wine Estate
Almenkerk is situated in the beautiful Elgin Valley and is a family-owned wine estate. The family that owns the farm are the van Almenkerk’s from Belgium and the Netherlands. They settled in South Africa in 2002 as they were taken aback by this beautiful country and the warm-hearted people. Natalie and Joris manage the estate and oversee the cultivation of apples, pears and grapevines.
The estate is well-known for its Chardonnay. The estate’s tasting room offers views that are second to none in the Kogelberg Biosphere. “Active@Almenkerk is a hiking trail that provides an adventure through the orchards and vineyards on the estate.
The Elgin experiences a cool climate that gives grapes an extended maturation period on the vine, resulting in fully ripe grapes with moderate alcohol content, crisp natural acidity, and distinctive minerality in the white and red wines.
