Muratie Wine Estate
The Melck family own the Muratie Wine Estate that is situated in the Knorhoek Valley that is located north of Stellenbosch. The estate is a hidden gem and timeless treasure which is under the stewardship of the Melck family and led by Rijk Melck. A visit to the estate opens up a plethora of experiences, which include being immersed in the rich history and being exposed to exceptional wines.
Guests are invited to step into history, savor excellence and create cherished memories. Muratie is known to be one of South Africa’s oldest estates - dating back to 1685. Each bottle of wine pays respect to characters on the farm such as the “Lady Alice” which is their exquisite MCC bubbly.
The label and the quality of wines have undergone remarkable transformations over the years. Hattingh De Villiers is the wine maker and has contributed in Muratie rising to prominence in the world of Borddeaux blends, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
A visit to Muratie is a journey along time lines where guests spend the day browsing through the Mok Art Gallery, indulging in a wine-tasting experience and enjoying a traditional meal at the restaurant. For those adventure seekers, the farm also plays host to mountain biking trails, promising exhilarating experiences.
The Helicopter Wine Safari includes and exclusive flight package which includes a private flight and half day experiences at Muratie including wine tasting and lunch.
To avoid disappointment make a reservation 48 hours in advance to ensure landing permissions are secured.
The helicopter flight from the V&A Waterfront to Muratie is approximately 20 minutes and from Muratie back to the V&A Waterfront is also 20 minutes. Time on the ground is 2-3 hours to explore the estate. The total experience is approximately 3-4 hours.
Cape Town Helicopters reserves the right to return the helicopter to base if operational requirement dictate.
To experience this enchanting wine estate it will cost R 20 000 (USD 1055) per person and includes lunch and wine tastings.
