Muratie Wine Estate

The Melck family own the Muratie Wine Estate that is situated in the Knorhoek Valley that is located north of Stellenbosch. The estate is a hidden gem and timeless treasure which is under the stewardship of the Melck family and led by Rijk Melck. A visit to the estate opens up a plethora of experiences, which include being immersed in the rich history and being exposed to exceptional wines.

Guests are invited to step into history, savor excellence and create cherished memories. Muratie is known to be one of South Africa’s oldest estates - dating back to 1685. Each bottle of wine pays respect to characters on the farm such as the “Lady Alice” which is their exquisite MCC bubbly.

The label and the quality of wines have undergone remarkable transformations over the years. Hattingh De Villiers is the wine maker and has contributed in Muratie rising to prominence in the world of Borddeaux blends, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

A visit to Muratie is a journey along time lines where guests spend the day browsing through the Mok Art Gallery, indulging in a wine-tasting experience and enjoying a traditional meal at the restaurant. For those adventure seekers, the farm also plays host to mountain biking trails, promising exhilarating experiences.

The Helicopter Wine Safari includes and exclusive flight package which includes a private flight and half day experiences at Muratie including wine tasting and lunch.

To avoid disappointment make a reservation 48 hours in advance to ensure landing permissions are secured.

The helicopter flight from the V&A Waterfront to Muratie is approximately 20 minutes and from Muratie back to the V&A Waterfront is also 20 minutes. Time on the ground is 2-3 hours to explore the estate. The total experience is approximately 3-4 hours.

Important Information

Check In Time

Please check in 30 minutes before your scheduled takeoff time. This allows us to complete weight checks, conduct the safety briefing, and issue your tickets. Once checked in, you can relax in our waiting area, capture some great pre-flight photos, and soak in the atmosphere before your adventure begins.

Photography Tip

For the best photos, we recommend wearing darker-colored clothing. Light colours, especially white, can reflect off the windows and affect your shots—so dress dark for that perfect picture! We do not have an on-site photographer.

Seating

For all sharing flights, seating is assigned based on weight and balance, which is determined during your safety briefing and ticketing. If you prefer to choose your own seats, you may book an Exclusive Flight by purchasing one additional seat—guaranteeing you the best seats in the house.

Weather

All flights are weather-dependent. If conditions are not suitable for flying, we will make every effort to reschedule your flight to the next best available time. For your comfort, please note that the temperature in the sky is the same as on the ground, so dress accordingly.
